Lee Roy Selmon's story combines the merits of family sports scholarship and volunteerism in the community. First family he is the youngest of nine children of Lucious and Jessie Semon who grew up on a family farm near Eufala, Oklahoma. He was also one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma in football. Three brothers all made All-American teams. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's most effective lineman. The three seasons he was an offensive lineman, Oklahoma went 32- 1-1 and also won two championships at the national level. Selmon received a third award in 1975. In addition, he was referred to as an National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon earned a degree in Education. Lee Roy spent ten hours a week on volunteer work in his college days. Then he settled in Tampa after graduation, and played with the Buccaneers for a period of nine years, and played three times in the all-pro league. His business career began. The year 1988 was the first time he began working as an Account Relation Officer for First Florida Bank in Tampa. He was employed by the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute and also the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized him as one among America's best young men. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in height and weighed 256 pounds in his college days. He led the 1975 team. In 1993, he was a part of as a director at University of South Florida as the associate director of athletics. He was named associate director of athletics by the College Football Hall of Fame recognized him in 1988. GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994. Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 handed out their Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma awarded it.
